Favourite Animated Film

My favourite animated film would have to be..

'The Great Mouse Detective'

"Basil, the rodent Sherlock Holmes, investigates the kidnapping of a toy-maker and uncovers its link to his archenemy, Professor Ratigan."

It is just.. great. The villains are kind of creepy (like Ratigan and his bat partner in crime.. creeps!) - and it is just.. fun.. Sherlock Holmes for children.. And, although I am no longer a child, I still find this movie an absolute delight to watch.

Sure, there are a million other movies that have better animation, storyline, what have you.. But I think this would be my favourite.. Well, a close second is 'The Brave Little Toaster'.. Anyways..

A Movie Trailer

I am going to go with 'Gentlemen Broncos'. I really wanted to see it because it was the same people that did 'Napoleon Dynamite' - and I seriously love that movie.. This film was really strange, but there was something really great about it. Maybe the fact that it was so.. different?

Check out the trailer for yourself..

Anything Film Related

Anything film related hmmm..

Okay.. 3D movies. I am getting really sick and tired of them.

Really all they do is jack up the price of the movie ticket.. And half of the time, the movie isn't really gaining anything from being 3D. I believe it was Scorese that said he thinks ALL movies should be done in 3D. Barf. Really? I would go nuts.

I am patiently waiting for movies to be done in holographic form.. That way the movie is acted out around you.. I think that would be rad.

Apparently, nintendo's new gaming system is 3D - but you do not need the glasses.. See.. If movies could be done like that, I would be in! I think it is the glasses that annoy me the most.. I already wear glasses most of the time, so when I put contact lenses in only to have to wear glasses? Tres annoyed.

Yeah. 3D movies not a fan.. But 3D movies without the glasses.. doable. Bring on holographic films!!

Favourite Movie As A Kid

That would definitely be 'Rock-A-Doodle'..

"A little boy named Edmond learns that the crowing of Chanticleer the rooster did not make the sun rise, as everyone thought. But when a flood threatens his family's farm, Edmond sets off to get Chanticleer to make the sun rise and save the day or the rain will keep coming down forever. Edmond gets turned into a kitten during this adventure, for no apparent reason other than that cats are easier to animate than humans. Meanwhile Chanticleer has moved to the city, and although the farm seems to be in the Midwest, the nearest city is clearly supposed to be Las Vegas. Chanticleer is now the King and now he has to hurry, because the horrible owls, who love the darkness, are coming." Written by Anthony Pereyra hypersonic91@yahoo.com

We (my sister and friends) try to watch it at least every other year, if not every year. There is just something so.. magical about it. I think it will always hold a very special place in my heart!!

A Movie Quote

I have been doing not so well with posting every day for 30 days.. Ugh.

Anyways.. A movie quote.. Wow.. Um.. I use so many within a day that now I am actually stuck..

One that we use quite a bit within my family is from the movie 'Super Troopers'.

Actually, we probably use a quote from this movie almost daily.. But one that constantly shows up (in varying ways) is a part where they are discussing their shenanigans..

And I quote..

"But our shenanigans are cheeky and fun."
"Their shenanigans are cruel and tragic."

We mostly use the 'cheeky and fun' and 'cruel and tragic' bits - but you get the point.

What is YOUR favourite quote from a movie? Or one that you use a lot?

A Guilty Pleasure Movie

Ohh boy.. I have tons! I mean, I could easily say any number of rom-com movies.. But I think I am going to go with my guiltiest guilty pleasure movie..

"An escaped maniac returns to his childhood home on Christmas Eve, which is now a sorority house, and begins to murder the sorority sisters one by one."

I mean, honestly.. It isn't a great movie by any means, but I absolutely love it! My brother gets quite angry when I am watching it (which is at least once a year) because of the classic 'omg there is a crazed killer in the house! let's be dumb and stay within the house' etc. Whatever. It is still great.

I usually watch around Christmas time or at the very least during winter.. Which reminds me.. I haven't watched it yet this season! I better get on that!

The only thing missing between this one and the original is the vulgarity of the phone calls. I just watched the original a few weeks ago again.. The 'c' bomb is dropped many a-times!

Last Movie You Watched

The last movie I watched was actually a week ago now.. Which is horrible for moi! My family and I have been watching 'The Office' seasons like crazy.. So that takes the place of my movie watching time. Anyways!

Now, the copy that we picked up is actually just called 'Harpoon: Whale Watching Massacre' - but this was the only photo they had.

"An epic tale about a group of whale watchers, whose ship breaks down and they get picked up by a whale fisher vessel. The Fishbillies on the vessel has just gone bust, and everything goes out of control."

This movie was actually pretty good. Bonus: thankfully you do not see whales or other sea animals being slaughtered.. You see people being slaughtered instead. I always find it weird that we're (most people as a collective group) are okay with people being murdered/slaughtered/whatevered in movies, but bring animals in to it and everyone is up in arms!

It was a nice cap to our evening, as we had started out with 'Piranha'. We went with a water theme.. We're rad like that!

First Movie You Ever Watched

I was going to ask my parents about this, for authenticity sake.. But, I decided that I would just go with the first movie that I remember watching.. Even thinking like that, it is a toss up.

Apparently we (my siblings and I) would be content with one movie through the whole day. We would watch it.. rewind, watch again, repeat. Sometimes we would act silly and goof around during the showing, the next one we would be content and watch it, the next we would sleep, etc.

I am going to say that the first movie I have memories of is: The Land Before Time.

"Five orphan dinosaurs travel the ruins of their world, while grieving the loss of their families and banding together to face the odds of survival."

I think if I were to watch this movie now.. I would cry. I still remember the extreme happiness when the little dinos find their parents at the end.. Petrie and Littlefoot.. So so good!!

The other movie that I remember watching a lot as a child is Rock-A-Doodle.. And, according to my mother, I watched Sleeping Beauty like no other.. The things we learn..

Favourite Actor and Actress

This is another question that I am really bad with. I like a lot of actors and actresses.. Always have! There are many great attributes within so many that it is always difficult to just pick a person or two.

For this question I am going to pick two of my favourite up and coming actors.. I feel that is fair!

I will start with my favourite actress, and that title belongs to: Emma Stone.

It all started when I saw her in Superbad as Jules. I knew right then and there that she would be someone to look out for. She was a scene stealer in an already outrageously funny movie - I figure that is no easy feat! Then The House Bunny came out.. And she was so awkward and amazing. (Side note: that movie is actually quite great! If you just watch it and let any assumptions go - it is fun!). Then out came Zombieland and suddenly everyone was like 'omgzzz! love this girl! yaddayaddayadda' - Yeah, of course you do. She is awesome. Another big movie for her came out this past year.. Easy A. I love that movie! Very enjoyable! Anything that has involved her has been great. I can only look towards the future (of her movies) with absolute delight.

Now for the actor.. Kyle Gallner is my choice.

So far, you will only have really seen him on the big screen if you watch 'scary' movies. He has been in: The Haunting in Connecticut, Jennifer's Body and A Nightmare on Elm Street. He has also done a few indie films and some television appearances as well. I think what I really like about him is he is taking the classic 'start off in horror films' approach. I always enjoyed that when you see a major Hollywood celeb and you find out they started in cheesy horror films (ala Johnny Depp). I would be quite pleased if he did another horror film or two and then made it big.. Just my two cents!

Favourite Director

This one is fairly easy for me..

My favourite director is.. Quentin Tarantino.

With movies like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bil Vol 1 & 2, Death Proof and Inglorious Basterds? How could he not be my favourite?

I think the only movie he did that I didn't really care for is Jackie Brown.. Though I only viewed it once and I was probably fairly young. Might have to give it another go.

I also like that he 'guest' directs or helps out a strange film.. Or steps in an a producer.. Someone that takes some risks from time to time.

I do enjoy his acting parts as well.. Oh! And when he is the writer and director - the dialogue within the movie! So great! You can always tell when it is a movie he has written or helped to write. It has the Tarantino-vibe.

There are many greats out there, but I can easily say he is my favourite.

Least Favourite Movie

This question is easy as it is a movie that I just watched within the last year. Absolute disaster, at least in my eyes!

What movie?

Nine.

"Famous film director Guido Contini struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother."
I didn't want to see this film - but the mother asked me to watch it with on dozens of occasions. Finally I relented as I had exhausted all other viewing materials at BlockBuster.

I felt horrible while watching it because my mom seemed so.. enthralled with the movie. I kept getting up to get more water or using the washroom (even though I didn't need to..) Finally, she said 'can we just fast forward through the rest? This movie is terrible!!'

I think I looked at her with my mouth wide open. I told her I thought she was enjoying it, etc, and she said 'absolutely not'. Hallelujah choir piped in. I hit fast forward. There was still at least 60 minutes of garbage left. WTF. Daniel Day Lewis and an impressive ensemble cast and WE were that bored?

A few friends of mine have brought it up from time to time: 'oh, I am thinking of watching Nine, how was it?' 'DON'T WATCH IT! You will be bored. You will scoop out your eyes! You will self-lobotomize! DO NOT WATCH!' - I think I get my point across quite well.

Favourite Movie

This is a bit difficult for me as there are many, many movie that I could easily call my favourite.

There are the movies that you watch 853769367645845 times and don’t get sick of them. They can be favourites. There are the movies you see that you loved but have only seen a few times – but could quote the whole thing. TOUGH QUESTION!

I honestly think I am going to have to say ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ – the actual movie, not the TV series.

I know. Anyone reading this is probably giving me serious doubt on my credibility when it comes to movie reviews.

I have easily viewed ‘Buffy’ 20 times.. I love Kristy Swanson and Donald Sutherland together.. They played off each others’ characters excellently! Toss in some vampires.. Perfection!

“Buffy Summers has the lifestyle any young woman could want. Cheerleading, dating the captain of the basketball team, and copious amounts of time spent shopping with friends. She had no idea of her true calling until a mysterious man named Merrick approached her and told her that she is the Slayer; one woman called to defend the world from vampires. Reluctant to concede to the fact, Buffy soon learns that Merrick speaks the truth and so begins to take her new life seriously while trying to maintain the sense of normality her life had once been. With her best friends slowly abandoning her, Buffy finds solace in the town outcast, Pike, who knows very well the terrors that have arisen. Together, they combat the forces of the old and powerful vampire, Lothos, who has his eyes set on Buffy.” written by Vampire Sharpshooter

There you have it. My favourite movie.. Well, one of them. When my parents bought us our first DVD player many, many years ago.. My siblings and I were delighted! We ran out the next day (Boxing Day) and were looking for DVDs. I remembered seeing the 'Buffy' DVD and being drawn to it as I had watched it on TV a time or three. Being able to actually purchase it and know it now belonged to me? Amazing.

What is YOUR favourite movie?
